It’s tempting to jump straight into designing a new website.
Colours, layouts, imagery, animation — that’s often the bit people are most excited to see. But a good website needs a bit of groundwork first.
Before we start designing, we need to understand who the website is for, what those people need, what makes the business different and what the website actually needs to achieve.
We also look at the wider market. What are competitors doing well? Where are they all starting to look and sound the same? And where is there an opportunity to do something clearer or more distinctive?
That’s why our process starts with four things:
Listen. Analyse. Position. Compare.
Then we build.
Putting that thinking in upfront gives the design much more purpose. It helps shape the structure, messaging, user journey and visual direction, rather than making those decisions in isolation.
The end result is a website that doesn’t just look good. It has a clear reason behind it and is designed around what the business, and its customers, actually need.
